Profitability is a matter of survival: if you don’t stay profitable, you don’t survive. Your P&L statement is all that it matters!
The bad news is that in your P&L you can only influence expenses. Your revenues are driven by customers! Are your customers satisfied? Do they remain loyal? Can a company attract new ones?
There are some good news too! ‘If you excel in the ‘basics’ (i.e. marketing, sales, commercial operations) you’ll see your customers come and stay (no matter the era, the market trends, or the external environment)!
You need to ensure your marketers, sales people and supporting staff are constantly equipped with up-to-date knowledge, methods and tools to excel in what they’re doing to attract, satisfy and retain customers. This is your primary task as a leader.
